Pre & Post Treatment Advice

It’s completely normal to have questions about what happens after your cosmetic enhancement procedure. Contrary to what you might think, there are some best practices when it comes to aftercare of your Botox® or dermal filler injections.

While it’s perfectly natural to have some minor swelling or bruising, there are ways to minimize the chances of that happening or worsening and we’re going to share our top three with you.

  1. ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION

Alcohol is widely known to cause fluid retention and to have blood thinning properties. The combination of these two effects can increase the amount of bruising and swelling that can occur. It’s our recommendation that you do not consume alcohol 24-48 hour prior to and after your treatments to be on the safe side.

  1. EXERCISE

It’s a good idea to avoid strenuous exercise and yoga for at least 24 hours after having Botox® or filler treatments as your rigorous routine or inverted yoga poses can cause the Botox® and filler to gravitate to other areas of the face causing temporary paralysis or filler being shifted around. Regular movement will not put you at risk of this.

  1. PAINKILLERS

Usually the pain after a Botox® or dermal filler treatment is relatively tolerable and subsides within a few days if there’s any residual soreness from the injections. Some people reach for anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen and aspirin and while these are usually helpful, in this case they too can thin the blood and increase your risk of bruising. Always inform your practitioner of any medications you may be taking.
